    119. The Architecture of Submission: A Case Study in Power Dynamics

In my practice, I love to assign homework. What we do together in play has such incredible power to reach deeper. Our lives are a quest for meaning. Those things we find erotic are the cave openings to our shadows, yes. But when consciously trod, they become the pathways to greater consciousness, self-mastery, and a sublime relationship with the divine.

I love to see one of my pups map out the psychological landscape of our dynamic, and to articulate the role that it plays in their lives. Oh gosh, we play, but in the spaces between, we frame that play with purpose.

The text below is from an exercise I conducted with a young client, a successful executive with a high-flying career. With their permission, I am sharing their raw expectations of me as their Domme, their personal aspirations for their own behaviour, and my editorial commentary on the mechanics of their surrender.

It is instructive for those who might be new to this, curious about me and my approach, but also for any student of psychology and the human condition. What turns us on is also the strongest motivating for us for self-transformation.

To serve me is to serve yourself.

Part I: Expectations of a Sub towards their Domme (In My pup’s Words)
“I expect my Domme to respect any lines I’ve drawn. I will not be forced to do anything I haven’t agreed to beforehand.

I do not like being called a slut or whore or bitch. It makes me feel bad because I’ve used those words to torture yourself for a very long time. ‘Little boy’ or anything of the like is fine.  I like being dominated, not treated like trash. I know some people like that, but I am not one of them.”

There is a fine balance here. I am very often asked, mainly by men, to use degrading language. To call them worthless. To make them do degrading things like to lick the bottom of my shoes clean. To call them names. There is a great deal of nuance required here, as I will not consciously shame a client, especially for aspects of identity. Cheap verbal abuse is both cheap and abusive. With one client who asked for this, I did the opposite. They wanted me to make racist comments and I politely declined, proceeding instead to tell them how beautiful they were. After hours of coddling and during our wind down, they said,

“wow, that was so different than any session I’ve ever had. You were so kind and gentle. I didn’t know it could be like that. I’ve never felt so submissive in my life.”

As Dommes we are given such privileged access. And perhaps there is a version for us of the Hippocratic Oath, to ‘do no harm’.

“Just because I am submissive in the bedroom doesn’t mean you will dominate me in real life. I’m actually very dominant in real life and I try hard to combat that and make our relationship an equal one. Me trusting you to dominate me in session is huge because I cannot stand people to run all over me in real life. And I will be very vocal if I think you’re trying to run over me.”

I love this and we have had many laughs over the intervening years about “I’m actually very dominant in real life.” What has changed for this person is that they have learned to move within the vanilla world with more subtlety. The art of being supple. I am very proud of this person for what this very small change in their personal style has enabled for them on a grand scale.

Men, in particular, are susceptible to this line of thinking. The seduction of the Alpha.  True?  Not likely, but the Alpha Paradox is a truth. High-achievers can crave submission in a controlled, boundaried environment, as an antidote to the pressure and expectations they live with every day. I see it too often to know that it is not an accident.

Submission for them becomes a sophisticated and much-needed release valve. As their Domme, I bring the guardrails, holding them with strength. Sometimes at the beginning, especially with clients new to power dynamics, there is an internal struggle about letting go. The power of intimacy and the erotic is that it is a key enabling force. When we are intimate with someone our trust levels shoot up, and our perceived risk goes down. That is the essence of trust, and trust is the foundation of a healthy D/s dynamic.

“Just like we talk about the things we want to do when having sex, with a partner, my Domme partner needs to talk to me if they have a problem with anything I do or something that is bothering them. I hate it when people keep it bottled up inside and if they want to talk about it then talk about it. I can’t read minds and I don’t take hints very well. Just say it already or wait until you gather your thoughts on it.”

The clear communication of expectations, clarity on boundaries, all these things make it possible to operate with empathy and understanding, and are critical if we want to move beyond a simple play time session in a dungeon.

Part II: The Aspirational Submissive (In My Pup’s Words)
Just as I want to know what my pups expect of me as their Domme, the conditions for trust which make our dynamic strong, I ask my charges to think deeply about how being intentional through submission can make them better people.

What should I expect of you? These are the traits that this person came up with:
    • Enthusiastic co-operation
    • Continuous improvement…that I become better so that my submission has ever-increasing value, to me, and to you
    • Creative contribution…I am an active participant and need to co-create without ever seeking to direct
    • Deep trust
    • Long-lasting devotion…consistency
    • Attention to detail…thinking independently—I have agency and need to use it
    • Sincerity and honesty
    • Authentic vulnerability…being articulate about my edges
    • Receptive sexuality and a willingness to explore
    • Skilful mood management
    • Positive beliefs
    • Rock solid on my own boundaries and speaking up when we stray into a danger zone; radical self-responsibility

This list came fairly early in our dynamic and impressed me. It showed a really high level of self-awareness, and a willingness to go deep. Indeed, it was the best indicator of what lay ahead, a profoundly deepening, regular, and long-term relationship.

What do I love most about it? This pup recognized that submission is not passive; it requires active psychological labour, responsible engagement. And while we have an intense, high-protocol, total control dynamic when we are “at play”, they are deeply respectful of my desires for them to maintain their autonomy outside of the scene:
    • Ideas of their own; zero dependence
    • A backbone; starting with agency and boundaries
    • Hopes and dreams of their own and an ability to articulate them, and work towards them
    • Having their own interests and life outside of our dynamic
    • Having their own friends

The Domme receives intense, devotional energy. It can very easily slip into something toxic and co-dependent. A submissive with a backbone, a mind of their own, and total vigilance on their own agency is exactly the kind of client with whom I can have a safer, deeper, and profound D/s container. This is the ‘elite’ submissive.

And yes, give me a slave who can kneel before me in total submission and then go out and conquer the world, only to bring it back and lay it at my feet.

Sometimes people from the vanilla world focus on the kinks, the “perversions”. But these are never the point. What turns us on is highly individual, and it exists for a reason, coming from our life experience. My goal is to come to a mutual understanding of how fulfilling those desires, playing with them, mastering them, developing them, can also be a tool for deeper self-actualisation.

And yes, I am a highly competent whip mistress, strap daddy, puppy wrangler, mommy domme but that is never the point. The point is whether you are ready to show up for yourself.

  • 86. Ritual Kink.  The Art and Practice of Embodied Power

    86. Ritual Kink.  The Art and Practice of Embodied Power

Where erotic intelligence meets healing, structure, and surrender.

The modern world bombards us.  Everything is a distraction.  We live in a state of near-constant stress and over-stimulation.  The essence of consumer society results in intense inequality and feelings of inadequacy.  Am I rich enough, am I pretty enough, am I fit enough, am I young enough?  And the answer is always ‘no’ because there is always someone with more.

One of the very first things we might do together is to touch one another.  But to do so with feeling, with intention.  To remember what it feels like to touch and be touched.

The expectation gap is corrosive and self-inflicted.  And it takes up residence in our bodies.  We were not designed for this.  This is where chronic stress comes from.

And what price success?  That our relationships suffer.  That we succeed at the rat race only to leave what really matters on the sidelines: our families, friends, true passions.  This sacrifice leads to an unhappiness felt down to the cellular level, infusing every part of our being.  And the malaise is never one we can put our fingers on.

You may notice it between your shoulder blades, in your neck, in how alert you are when you go to bed.

Bodies carry these stories, and they remain locked in muscles and in breath patterns. We learn to function in spite of it, limping along. Overcoming it takes conscious healing.  Talk therapy alone rarely reaches it. The body must be engaged.

Ritual Kink is a structured, embodied practice that uses erotic energy and power exchange to bring those hidden layers to the surface safely. It isn’t therapy, and it isn’t entertainment. It’s a framework for working directly with the physiology of stress, arousal, and release.

Pie chart illustrating patterns of desire in Ritual Kink clients, categorizing their needs and behaviors into four segments: 'Seeks Safety (35-40%)', 'Hides Desire (20-25%)', 'Forgotten Touch (25-30%)', and 'Knows What He Wants (10-15%)'.

This is why I do what I do, because our bodies tell the truth when our words cannot.  My goal is for your body to speak freely, to feel, whether through movement, sensation, or even sound.

    Why Erotic Work Matters

Sexual energy is the most powerful language our bodies speak.  I regard it as the connection to our souls, and beyond that, to the Divine.  It provides direct access to the nervous system.  When we are disconnected from it, everything about us becomes dull. Creativity drops.  Relationships flatten.  Anxiety increases.  We die a little bit.

But when the body is met, when you can feel the effects of your breath in all of your body, the quiet ignition which results allows you to be fully present, fully alive.

In most of us, arousal and shame are wired together.  We internalise cultural and personal conditioning that says desire must be hidden or controlled.  The result is tension and confusion: the body wants, but the mind judges.  A knot.

You may have felt that dichotomy, both hunger and hesitation living just below the skin.  Erotic ritual creates a clear, conscious space to unwind that knot. It allows desire to be explored with gentle curiosity rather than as something to be suppressed or indulged blindly.

The Origins of Kink and Fetish

Fetish is not pathology. It is a form of intelligence, the body’s creative attempt to transform discomfort into fascination, fear into excitement, helplessness into play.  Regardless of the origins of someone’s fetish, it describes a moment in time, a feeling, the creation of which was a survival mechanism.  Our fetishes are like band-aids, papering over the cracks in our fractured body-minds.

Early adaptations designed to help us cope become erotic signatures in adulthood.

But a fetish which is approached consciously can be a map.  An erotic blueprint.  A fetish, a kinky desire, came into being as a coping mechanism.  But for what?

That’s where curiosity begins. What if the thing you hide is the thing that could set you free?
Crawling into your fetish need not be an exercise in self-indulgence, or something which sparks shame, but a key to your inner world, a gateway to understanding and explaining you.  And embracing this, wallowing in it, observing it, enjoying it, helps you to see how we learned to survive intensity and overwhelm.  Self-knowledge becomes the first step towards your own power.

In Ritual Kink, we work with these patterns deliberately: naming them, recreating them safely, and allowing the nervous system to rewrite its associations.

This process is not about humiliation or indulgence. It’s about agency: the ability to choose how you relate to power, control, and surrender.

    The Framework

This is my offering.  Ritual Kink brings together several disciplines, each with its own purpose:

    DisciplineFunction
TantraConnecting the erotic and the spiritual.  Harnessing the power of desire through breath, gaze and polarity.
BDSMKink practices provide structure and clarity of boundaries which allow for intensity in exploration.
Ritual PracticeFraming of intention and turning experience into conscious choice.
Somatic TherapyFreeing the subconscious residue held in muscles and breath allowing the freeing of emotional memory.
    ReikiChannelling of divine healing energy

I bring these practices into every session I do.  They form the container in which playful exploration becomes profound.  Inside that structure, you can let go. What happens next isn’t scripted.  Together, we discover it, co-create it, moment by moment.

    Why People Come

Clients usually come because something in their relationship to power, desire, or control isn’t working.

    They may:

    • Struggle to relax or let go during intimacy.
    • Feel detached from their body or their partner.
    • Live in high-functioning stress that never fully subsides.
    • Carry shame around desire or fetish.
    • Want to understand dominance or submission without losing dignity or agency.
    • Sense that their erotic life could be a path to self-understanding, but don’t know how.
    • Feel like a victim or without power, and want to reclaim agency
    • Be starved for touch and profound connection

Whatever brings you here, whether curiosity, frustration, or longing, it always comes down to the same thing: the wish to feel safe enough to feel it all.

What you will discover with me is that your body holds more to say than your mind can put into words.  Power exchange and surrender, openness and vulnerability, become the gateways to your own freedom.  The truth of the body becomes your liberation.

    What It Is Not

    • It is not therapy, though it may feel therapeutic.
    • It is not performance or fantasy roleplay, though imagination is sometimes used, and even if the tools we use include fantasy roleplay.
    • It is not indulgence.
    • It is not about “fixing” or “training.”

It is a method for using structured erotic intensity to restore connection between sensation, emotion, and agency.  We are waking up the divine connection between your body and your spirit.

Yes, I am an escort.  But there is nothing casual or passive about my approach.  I lead for a reason, and you follow for fulfilment.  I lead with precision and empathy. Control and care are not opposites, but rather two faces of the same energy.

    Why It Works

Stress and trauma live in the body. The body doesn’t distinguish between physical and emotional threat.

When someone enters a ritualised scene where intensity is negotiated, witnessed, and contained, the body finally has permission to complete its responses: to fight, to yield, to tremble, to cry, to breathe.  These natural responses are a form of honesty that we unconsciously deny ourselves.  When release comes, it isn’t loud.  It’s the quiet relief of not having to hold yourself together anymore

This is what sits behind the concept we call subspace.  It is catharsis and becomes afterglow.  It can be transcendant, allowing the body to enter a sacred state.  It is a place for the body-mind to find itself, to heal itself, to detach itself from shame.

All these tools are means to bring about that end.

    Integration

People leave calmer, clearer, and more connected to themselves. The effects last because they are learned through the body, not imposed by the mind.  You will sleep deeply, move differently, and see the world with a growing sense of clarity and purpose.

    Who It’s For

Ritual Kink is for anyone who wants to understand themselves through the language of the body rather than through abstract thought.

For those who feel split between control and desire, or between competence and vulnerability. For those ready to experience power without aggression and surrender without loss.

It is for people who value self-inquiry, not escapism.

    Working Together

Each engagement begins with a gentle conversation to establish intention, boundaries, and desired outcomes. Sessions are collaborative, paced according to your system, and may include touch, breathwork, sensory ritual, or structured dominance. Aftercare and integration support are part of the process.

You don’t need to know what you want in perfect language.  Or even how to say it.  And it’s okay to be afraid to articulate your desire, for fear of judgement. Curiosity and honesty are enough.  If this resonates, start with a conversation. That’s where the ritual begins.  And over time, you will astonish yourself by how much more you can enjoy.

The purpose of our play is that it allows space for the subconscious to come to the surface and to announce itself.

    Closing

Ritual Kink is a practice of embodied power. It is about learning how to inhabit the body again, with authority and ease. It uses the erotic not for pleasure alone, but for truth.  Every breath, every boundary, every tremor becomes part of the language we speak together.  And you will know it because your body will feel different, it will be yours.

  • 41. The Secret to Becoming a Dominatrix’s Favourite Client

    41. The Secret to Becoming a Dominatrix’s Favourite Client

Respect, devotion, and surrender: how to earn the kind of attention you secretly crave.

Follow these simple guidelines and you will prosper under my firm hand.

    Why Clients Come to Me

Nobody stumbles across a Dominatrix by accident. Something inside of you brings you here: hunger, curiosity, a need to be seen and shaped.

Many men, and women too, feel this pull. Few act on it.  Fewer still, with the right intention. But it matters.  It is a deeply felt need.  I know that.  So let’s not blow it before you even start.  And as the one you’ve come to, I want you to succeed.

The difference between those who waste my time and those who delight me is simple: respect and vulnerability, the two ingredients which make surrender possible.

    What Makes a Client Delicious

A delicious client doesn’t send lazy “hi” messages or uninvited pictures of their privates. They will show me who they are without fumbling. They make me feel safe, purposeful, and comfortable in how I can help before I ever step into a room with them.  And when you please me from the start, I am so much more inclined to give you the softness or the sting you crave.

    That means:

    • They follow my screening without hesitation.
    • They handle deposits and tribute as instructed.
    • They communicate clearly, never wasting words.

Do this, and already you stand out. Already, you become memorable.

    The Gift of Surrender

What you seek is not just play. It is release. You ache for permission to let go, to have your restlessness silenced, your body awakened.

With me, you are not simply “submitting to a woman.” You are stepping into a current older and deeper than both of us.  The energy of the Divine Feminine.

She may arrive in softness or in ferocity, in tender cradling arms or in a strike that makes your breath catch. She is the giver of life and the taker of control. And through me, she touches you.

    How to Prepare Yourself

When you approach me, approach as if you are coming to see a High Priestess.  How will you carry yourself in her presence?  How will you walk?  How will you disrobe?  Will you look at her or at the ground?  How will you speak?  Answer these things, and know too, how you will feel, how you wish to feel.

    • Bathe. Breathe. Centre yourself.
    • Bring intention, not demands.
    • Enter my presence with awareness and self-respect.

Come prepared like this, and you’ll find Mommy’s hands — whether they cradle or command — waiting to take you where you long to go.  This is how you ready yourself for the kind of session that lingers in your bones.

    Becoming My Favourite

To be my favourite is not complicated. It is simply rare.  In my care, you’ll discover how discipline and tenderness can live in the same touch.

    • Respect my time.
    • Follow my lead.
    • Communicate with clarity.
    • Treat our sessions as sacred, not transactional.

When you do, I will remember you. And when I remember you, you will know what it means to be truly chosen.

    Your Invitation

The ache you feel now is your sign. The hunger that made you read this far is the beginning.

Are you ready to take the step that others only dream of?  Ready to be guided, shaped, and cherished under my watchful eye?

If you are here, something in you has already responded.

This is not casual booking, and it is not for everyone. I work with people who are curious, intelligent, and willing to take responsibility for what they want.

Those who wish to work with me do not request. They present themselves.

  • 2. How Being a Rope Bottom Taught Me to Top with Precision and Power

    2. How Being a Rope Bottom Taught Me to Top with Precision and Power

What Rope Taught Me About Power, Presence, and Precision

My journey in Shibari began as a rope bottom.

Before I ever picked up a length of rope as a rigger, I spent years inside the experience — tied, held, suspended, and opened. When I first took the Kink Test, “rope bunny” came up as my strongest kink, despite never having been tied. It surprised me.  I had completed the test on the request of a dominatrix who I went to see as a client.

Our first time was my first time in rope.  She has been witness to my own journey, and now counts among my most important mentors, and even asks me to tie her.

Some people might think that being a rope bottom is passive. It is not.  It is sensory, emotional, attentive work.  The best bottoms don’t come pre-surrendered, but watch you, wait for you, and expect you to come and get them.  To lead.

Over the years, and with a pantheon of teachers, nearly all of whom have been women, I have learned a great deal about power dynamics through the medium of rope.  Unlike the mostly male riggers in the rope scene, most women began as models.  They all say they are better Tops for it.

They learned presence, empathy, precision, and the ability to read a body without words.  That is my journey.

Rope brought made me confront parts of myself that I feared. It helped me process trauma through sensation, breath, and trust. It had nothing to do with sex and everything to do with embodiment. One of the most accomplished riggers I was ever tied by became a friend, and one day she said simply:

“You’re not a bottom; you’re a rigger.  It is time for you to start tying.”

I protested, “but, but, but…” I didn’t feel ready. She knew I was.  It took me a year to see in me what she had, but then I began my training, and 18 months later I was in her studio, learning from the woman who took me deepest into submission in rope.  Now, several years later, she is and remains my sensei.

As I brought my gender and sex into alignment, my energy harmonised. The more I stepped into my womanhood, the more I stepped into my dominance. Rope became the bridge between the two.

In my first formal rigging class, the bottom I was paired with said to me, “I can’t believe you’re new to this. You feel so sure.” What she felt wasn’t technical mastery — it was intent. Because I had been in rope, I knew what the internal experience should feel like. I could communicate that even when my knots were still developing.

    That is the core lesson.

A professional dominatrix can only take you as far as she has gone herself.

You can learn technique from books and workshops, but unless you’ve been on the receiving end, you don’t understand the depth of what you’re offering. That applies to rope, impact play, all walks of life.

I was never a pain slut, but I learned how to move through intensity into catharsis and then into aftercare. Those experiences shape the way I top now. I know the difference between intensity and danger. I know how escalation feels emotionally, not just mechanically.

This is why many of the best dommes I know say things like, “Try this on me so I can feel what it actually does.” It isn’t curiosity. It’s responsibility.

Over the years, I’ve explored a wide range of practices. Some I still enjoy. Some I no longer offer because they don’t align with the intimate, emotional, and spiritual style of domination I practice today. But one principle has never changed:

I will never do something to a client that I wasn’t willing to experience myself.

And the reverse is also true:

Everything I offer is something I understand from the inside.

I’ve taken beatings that left my skin striped.
I’ve been caned, flogged, held down, pushed, and opened.
I’ve met my own limits and learned how to guide others toward theirs.

This matters because when you’re doing edge play, you want someone who knows the territory, not just in theory, but in the body. Someone who understands what happens in the breath, the muscles, and the mind. Someone who can tell the difference between surrender and overwhelm, and who knows exactly when to push and when to pull back.

So when you’re choosing a Top — for rope, impact, or deeper exploration — don’t just ask what they have done.

    Ask what they have felt.

  • 8. The Power of Being a “Face Out” Dominatrix

    8. The Power of Being a “Face Out” Dominatrix

Why my truth makes your surrender deeper

I never hid who I am.

Not my womanhood.  Not my transness.  Not my intersex body.  Not my power.  And certainly not my work.

I have no reason to apologize or hide.  I love what I do, and that I stand tall and proud in doing it is not just a political statement, but the very source of comfort you seek from me.

I choose to be face out because I stand fully in the woman I am — a woman shaped by experience, desire, intelligence, and a deliberate, embodied relationship with power.
When you step toward me, you’re not entering a fantasy built on secrecy.  You’re entering something grounded, intentional, and unmistakably real.

Before I ever held a cane or tied rope, I shaped desire with language.  I spent decades writing erotic fiction across the full spectrum of kink, from the familiar to the forbidden.

There aren’t many fantasies I haven’t explored — the kinds people don’t dare to admit even to themselves.

That work taught me the architecture of longing: how desire moves, how it hides, how it reveals itself in breath, imagination, and confession.

So when you come to me, you’re in the hands of someone who understands desire long before you have the courage to name it.

My work is not only shaped by fantasy; it is shaped by the body.

I trained and practiced as a somatic therapist long before I stepped into professional domination, and I still practice today.

Somatic work taught me where longing lives in muscle and breath, how tension stores in the nervous system, and how touch — structured, grounded, intentional — creates a kind of emotional and physical clarity most people never experience.

I read bodies the way others read books. Every inhalation, shift of weight, flicker in your eyes tells me what you want, what you fear, and exactly where to take you next.

And the intersection of somatic awareness, rope, containment, structured sensation, and power dynamics creates an intensity that cannot be imitated.  Rope becomes a dialogue with your nervous system.  Impact becomes grounding, release, recalibration.

In my hands, kink is a ritual of attention — a way of guiding you to yourself.

I also live this life beyond the dungeon.

I am a lifestyle Domina as much as I am a professional one, and the two flow naturally into each other.

Dominance isn’t a performance for me; it’s the way I think, move, relate, decide.
It is the current flowing through my daily life, the shape of my presence, the ease with which I read people and guide them.

This is why I am powerful.  Not because I put on an act, but because this is simply who I am.

When you stand in front of me, you feel it immediately — that steadiness, that intelligence, that quiet certainty that allows you to exhale and let go.

I don’t need to be harsh, to shout, to command.  My approach is gentle, yes, but like silk, is stronger than steel

And this is why being face out should matter to you.

It tells you that I am established, grounded, confident, and exactly who I say I am.
    No masks.
    No shadows.
Only a woman who stands fully in her identity and in her craft.

    Many people hide.
    I don’t.
And that should tell you everything about what it feels like to give yourself to me:
the safety, the exposure, the honesty, the intensity.

There is nothing more arousing than a woman unafraid of being seen.
And when you come to serve me, you will feel that certainty in your body long before you kneel.

If all of this pulls at you —if the truth of me only heightens your desire —then you already know what comes next.

Not everyone gets to step into this space.  If you are exceptional, or wish to become so and are willing to do the work, then…

    An Invitation

If you are here, something in you has already responded.

This is not casual booking, and it is not for everyone. I work with people who are curious, intelligent, and willing to take responsibility for what they want.

Those who wish to work with me do not request. They present themselves.

    Begin here.

    About Me

Mx Valentina is a feminist dominatrix, a trans and intersex woman, whose practice centres on ethical power exchange and the conditions under which lives reorganise themselves around purpose rather than shame. Her work is selective and relational, grounded in the belief that submission is not a role to be played but an orientation that must already be present. She works only with those who understand that access is conditional and authority is not negotiated.  You can find my scholarly feminist writing on Substack and lighter pieces on Medium.
